• Created a profitable micro-SaaS Github extension using Node.js, Typescript, React, Next.js, Firebase, and Tailwind CSS.

• cf. is a seed stage news, media, and games app founded by the former COO of Github. I joined as a hand-on CTO and took ownership of a pre-launch native iOS app and custom CMS and backend. I led a team of 5 contractors to launch the app within two months.• After launch, I rebuilt the expensive-to-maintain custom CMS and backend. I reimplemented the CMS using the flexible, off-the-shelf CMS Sanity. I reimplemented the backend using Node.js, Typescript, Firestore, and Firebase Functions. This rebuild resulted in the elimination of reliance on outside contractors and an 85% reduction in monthly hosting costs.• Launched https://cf.me website using Typescript, React, Next.js, Vercel, and Tailwind CSS to bring the app functionality to the web.• Implemented an analytics model and framework using Google Analytics, Looker Studio, and Retool for assessing acquisition and retention health of the app.• Implemented a v2 of the iOS and Android app using web technologies, including Ionic.js and Capacitor.js. This further reduced the technology footprint and development costs for an early stage startup.

• My role at Bungalo expanded to lead all software development for Bungalo’s parent company Amherst. Amherst is a real estate and financial services company with 1,300 employees and >$5b in assets under management. As SVP of Engineering, I managed a $10m budget and lead a team of 50+ in transformation of Amherst’s legacy technology systems across single family rental, mortgage backed securities, and commercial real-estate businesses, while continuing to lead Bungalo and other consumer retail products. That transformation involves rearchitecting aging on-prem Microsoft technology to cloud-based web technologies and Salesforce.• Led the establishment of the first Product Management team at Amherst, served as interim Head of Product, and led the search for a permanent SVP of Product.

• Bungalo is a real-estate and company founded in 2018 with $225m in funding from its parent company Amherst. As CTO, I established and grew the engineering team to 10 engineers and led the efforts to launch the Bungalo website, mobile apps, and backend operational systems. Our technology stack included Node, React, PostgreSQL, AWS, and Salesforce.

• Tastemade is a new media startup focused on food, travel, and home content with over 300m active viewers across its O&O apps, streaming service providers, and social media platforms. I joined Tastemade shortly after its founding and series A round to establish and head the engineering team.• Hired and mentored a team of 25 cross-functional employees including engineering, product management, QA, design, data science, operations, and IT. Established an Austin office and helped drive company culture.• Led efforts to build the Tastemade consumer presence, including the Tastemade websites, 3 native mobile apps, and 3 streaming services apps. Our technology stack included Node, React, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, and AWS.• Led efforts to create internal tools for production, distribution, and content management to deliver Tastemade content across our O&O properties, YouTube TV, Snapchat Discover, Facebook Watch, and other social platforms.• Led efforts to create a data science team and platform to drive content ideation and optimization. Our technology stack included Amazon Redshift, Amazon Kinesis, Python, R, and Spark.Worked directly with the founders and other C-suite executives to help Tastemade grow to over 200 employees, >$40m in annual revenue, and raised over $80m in venture funding during my tenure.

• Joined Demand Media via acquisition of Pluck Corporation in 2008. Demand Media went public in 2011 at a $1.5b valuation.• Built a team of 15 engineers and led the creation of an internal CMS platform using Python, MongoDB, and NGINX. The platform included a JSON REST API, a template rendering engine, editorial tools, and it tracked data for more than ten million URLs published by Demand Media. The platform helped power 15+ O&O and partner websites, including Livestrong,com, USAToday.com, NationalGeographic.com, Salon.com, Hotels.com, and eHow.com, one of the most trafficked websites in the US. • Led product and engineering efforts to launch and grow international versions of eHow.com for the Spanish language and UK markets. eHowEnEspanol.com gained over 1M Facebook fans and significant traffic increases quarter over quarter.• Created a taxonomy platform in C#/.NET with a proprietary NOSQL backend. The platform powered a 80k node taxonomy and 250k topic pages for eHow.com.• Responsibilities included engineering management, project management, and technical product management. Oversaw the design and rollout of agile development and testing processes, including unit testing, bug tracking, automated deployments, and documentation.• Oversaw the hiring, training, and mentoring of new employees. Managed engineering, product, QA, and operations employees.• Worked cross-functionally with product, BI, SEO, and executive teams to market, train and coordinate the transition of existing properties to our CMS.
