My role is to lead the development of Mid Devon District Council’s environmental sustainability programme and its ambitious Climate Strategy and Action Plan - aiming for Net Zero climate impact by 2030. My Senior Ecologist role involved working with clients, landowners and local authorities, project management and team support to deliver diligent ecological assessments, clear data interpretation, and developing beneficial solutions in design and mitigation. I managed a range of projects using efficient GIS-linked survey methods for habitats and species such as barn owls, bats, water voles and great crested newts. My work on major infrastructure projects also included Site Ecologist, compliance monitoring and 'geology clerk of works' services. Geckoella Ltd - an excellent, innovative consultancy providing specialist services in Ecology, Geology and Heritage. Work on large infrastructure projects inc HS2, East West Rail, Hinkley Point C connection, Chippenham Futures. Bespoke support for developments, designated sites and protected landscapes. Fieldwork inc: thermal imaging surveys, infrared camera surveys, camera traps, static bat detector surveys and GIS-linked survey methods for e.g. barn owls, bats, badgers, water voles, reptiles, amphibians and more! Fieldwork included Extended Phase One, Ecological Clerk of Works duties at Ground Investigation sites, GI scoping, herptiles, bat habitat assessments and dusk/dawn vigils. Work also included project management and support of ecological data management. During June-November 2016, I was their Land Access Lead on HS2 projects - liaising with landowners, tenants, contractors and the client. May - June 2016: subcontractor to Helix Ecology. Added value through an engaged partnership approach and outstanding levels of participation e.g. volunteer time worth £0.4m! Main funders Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF*), Exmoor National Park Authority (ENPA) and Leader (EU/Defra) plus other sources. As the Local Action Group we set up and managed a £2m EU/Defra funded LEADER programme to benefit the rural economy - we directed the programme and made grant decisions. I served on the LAG committee and operational management team, dealing with business plan delivery and review, outreach, marketing and communications. I created and devised promotional material such as a website, brochure, advertising and press releases.

White Cliffs Countryside Project was a partnership between local authorities, government agencies and private sector, which delivered a comprehensive service in countryside management, countryside events and tourism, heritage conservation, environmental interpretation, volunteer activities and community engagement. My role was to bring this service to East Kent coalfield communities, delivering the SRB-funded core project.

(Groundwork Salford and Trafford at the time!) I managed a unique site on reclaimed industrial land with a large lake, ponds, and a mosaic of habitat zones. I ran the environmental education programme at the activity centre, raised funds (bid writing), and recruited and trained Voluntary Project Officers who supported all we did. My innovations included Saturday opening, a family weekend nature club, angling, art projects, a newt hibernation sculpture and a sensory garden. In a world before Google Maps, I persuaded Ordnance Survey to literally put us on the map! To champion the site my role involved press releases, photography, community outreach and partnership working.
