My Senior Ecologist role involved working with clients, landowners and local authorities, project management and team support to deliver diligent ecological assessments, clear data interpretation, and developing beneficial solutions in design and mitigation. I managed a range of projects using efficient GIS-linked survey methods for habitats and species such as barn owls, bats, water voles and great crested newts. My work on major infrastructure projects also included Site Ecologist, compliance monitoring and 'geology clerk of works' services. Geckoella Ltd - an excellent, innovative consultancy providing specialist services in Ecology, Geology and Heritage. Work on large infrastructure projects inc HS2, East West Rail, Hinkley Point C connection, Chippenham Futures. Bespoke support for developments, designated sites and protected landscapes. Fieldwork inc: thermal imaging surveys, infrared camera surveys, camera traps, static bat detector surveys and GIS-linked survey methods for e.g. barn owls, bats, badgers, water voles, reptiles, amphibians and more! Preliminary Ecological Appraisal habitat surveys, vegetation and site evaluations. Site Ecologist duties for Geological and Ecological projects. Desk work inc: Ecological Impact Assessments, evaluation and interpretation of complex ecological data in legislative context, data management, bat sound data analysis, GIS mapping management, bid and contract management, resource schedules and logistics, systems development, management team. My role was to bring this service to East Kent coalfield communities, delivering the SRB-funded core project.

(Groundwork Salford and Trafford at the time!) I managed a unique site on reclaimed industrial land with a large lake, ponds, and a mosaic of habitat zones. I ran the environmental education programme at the activity centre, raised funds (bid writing), and recruited and trained Voluntary Project Officers who supported all we did. My innovations included Saturday opening, a family weekend nature club, angling, art projects, a newt hibernation sculpture and a sensory garden. In a world before Google Maps, I persuaded Ordnance Survey to literally put us on the map! To champion the site my role involved press releases, photography, community outreach and partnership working.
