I have been in a data analyst position for more than 10 years, but to be honest I've been analyzing things all of my life. As a kid I used to get in trouble for taking electronics apart and putting them back together. Understanding the inter-connectivity of things is a passion of mine. I thrive on figuring out how things work and how they relate to other things around them. This trait has been invaluable to me as an analyst and has helped me to advance my career.In my opinion consultation and understanding 'the why' is one of the most important aspects of a data analyst job. Helping my customers tell a story with data is a key aspect of what I do. I rely on my consultation skills to better understand what is being asked for and why it's important. This helps as I design dashboards and reports to ensure the data tells the true story in a way that the end user can understand and utilize. As a person that does not have a stats background my strength and approach is about data preparation and visualization.
