Automation Programmer==================In order to more effectively process repetitive tasks, I automated solutions using Fortran, Microsoft Visual Basic, and Excel. My automation eliminated human performance errors and reduced the time required to develop applicable engineering products by greater than 50%. Technical Instructor==================I taught the three-day class on the Principles of Nuclear and Reactor Theory, a mandatory class that all new engineers at the power plant were required to take. By implementing innovative, interactive teaching methods that have been praised by both students and management, I improved the pass rate of this traditionally difficult class from 79% to 100%.

Qualified Nuclear Engineer==================I interfaced with Reactor Operators on a regular basis to maintain the safe and efficient operation of the power plant through the creation of reactivity maneuver guidance and core reload products. Although I transitioned to the role of Core Designer in 2014, I maintained my Reactor Engineering (Qualified Nuclear Engineer) qualifications and continued to leverage my experience to produce event-free results during startup physics testing at Calvert Cliffs. During the most recent refueling outage startup at Calvert Cliffs, I assisted the Lead Shift Engineer by conducting physics testing correctly and in a timely manner, which included coordinating with site managers and organizations to ensure there were no delays to the critical path schedule. My ability to work well under time pressure enabled all testing to be performed smoothly with no delays.

Core Designer==================Prior to each refueling outage at Calvert Cliffs, a multitude of design work must be completed and reviewed to ensure that the fuel design being implemented during the next cycle of operation is safe and efficient. As part of the Core Design team, I performed these tasks with a focus on attention to detail and a questioning attitude. During the merger, I made it my personal mission to ensure that the best elements of each company were maintained. I collaborated with company leadership in order to ensure that the practices and processes that worked well at Constellation Energy were implemented at Exelon while ensuring that Exelon best practices were also incorporated into the workgroup strategy.

Shift Test Coordinator==================Physics testing at a nuclear power plant is a high profile activity due to its position on the Critical Path Schedule and its importance in maintaining nuclear and radiological safety. During physics testing at Calvert Cliffs, I led a team of engineers to perform and analyze tests to ensure validity of core performance predictions. I collaborated with our fuel vendor’s engineering team to process and analyze the results of the tests, and I interfaced with Site Operations to ensure that all of the tests were performed per the applicable procedures.

During my time at GE Hitachi, I worked on two primary projects. First, I utilized a GE Hitachi Monte Carlo criticality safety code in order to test and verify that various configurations of nuclear fuel remained in a safe and subcritical state. Second, I used Fortran to lay the groundwork for updating a cross-section library in order to bring it into technical and regulatory compliance.

Duties included ensuring that work areas remained free from contamination and assisting the reactor operator in maintaining safe and uninterrupted operation of the reactor. Learned how to measure local radiation dose rates and safely handle radioactive material.
