About Jason West
Jason lives in Weymouth, Dorset (UK) with his two sons, swims in the sea to keep fit, was a primary school parent governor and founded social activism organisation #Weyforward CIC in 2013 to try to regenerate his home town. In 2018 he retrofitted his Victorian terraced house to net zero carbon and is now an independent qualified Retrofit Coordinator (Level 5 Diploma - PAS2035).Previously he has worked in English language teaching and learning (ELT) since 1992, founding and running two innovative education businesses in London, UK. Leicester Square School of English in Soho's Wardour Street became accredited by the British Council in 1994.In 2001 Jason created the innovative social learning and social media English course English Out There (EOT), described by world-famous ESL and linguistics expert Professor Stephen Krashen as “a major contribution to what we know works”. EOT was the first to teach people on the street during every lesson whilst facilitating real practice with members of the public. The summer school hasn't used a single classroom since 2012.He is the managing director of Languages Out There Ltd which runs the English summer school in London every year and provides learning content and consultancy to online educators and institutions. His private teaching work focuses on helping people who share his ethical ecological, economic and social views and who are also working to try to change global systems and practices to protect our planet and all of its people.

CurrentLOT started as a different kind of language school taking students out onto the streets of London and we now produce our own unique ELT materials for publication and use both in the classroom and online. We are also very focused on getting to grips with online learning environments and materials. Our methodology is based upon a Communicative approach but we have added elements of Constructivism and Psycholinguistics to the way we teach in every single session. Our intention is to unlock peoples' potential to acquire (rather than learn) language through carefully written materials that promote clear understanding allied with supportive teachers guiding learners through real world interaction with native and fluent speakers. The way we teach greatly improves learners confidence and restores motivation levels. It also provides very memorable experiences in every single session and through this naturally aids recall of the target language.

#Weyforward sprang out of a campaign to ask Weymouth & Portland Borough Council to redevelop the Pavilion peninsula in an iconic and sustainable way for the community. Our primary aim is to improve Weymouth for everyone. At first we wanted to build a responsive hybrid network to get fast accurate feedback (that is almost ready). Secondly to encourage a positive outlook and create a catalyst for educational and exciting events and projects in and around Weymouth and Portland that will raise the profile of the idea of #Weyforward.
