The King’s Highway Trust promotes Northeast Philadelphia history and preservation for the better part of three years. In 2015, director Jason Sherman created a documentary called "The King's Highway" about the vast unknown history of Northeast Philadelphia. He worked hard to interview over 50 local historians, experts, professors, politicians, historical societies, civic associations, and many other organizations in an effort to tell the story. After doing over one year worth of research, filming, and editing, he put together an award-winning film that took home the Best Feature Documentary prize at the 2016 First Glance Film Festival. He also premiered the film at the last standing theater on the King’s Highway: the Devon Theater in August 2016. Also, the Kimmel Center of the Performing Arts was the proud venue for the global premiere of the film at the Perelman theater in December 2016. In addition, the film was featured on WHYY/PBS from April 2017 all the way until December 2017, for an unprecedented amount of air time. Lastly, Mr. Sherman has created a bus tour for the King's Highway, an illustrated map of the historic buildings, and a website to bring all of the neighborhoods together, history events, tours, businesses, events, shopping, stories, organizations, historical societies, and much more. The King's Highway Trust's mission is to educate the public on the history of Northeast Philadelphia, and to protect & preserve the historic buildings as well as create a plan to reuse them. The Trust spreads awareness of that mission by engaging the community with special tours and themed events from here on out.
