As the Senior Director of Operations for the world-renowned Portland Japanese Garden and Japan Institute, I'm responsible for leading the Facilities, Visitor Relations, Retail, Cafe, Security, Events, and Safety teams in their daily operations to improve and maintain the multiple campuses of the organization and provide exemplary customer service to our guests and colleagues. I work with our Executive Team, Board of Trustees, and serve as a staff representative on several board committees, including the Special Projects Oversight Committee and Garden Resource Committee.With the IT Manager, I help to develop and implement cybersecurity and PCI compliance protocols and educate staff to increase network safety. I also utilize STS (support ticketing software) to document and prioritize IT and Facilities requests within the organization. The Safety and Security managers work with me to plan and implement procedures that respond to (or anticipate) safety and security threats to our staff, property, and guests. My Facilities team and I identify issues throughout the 3 campuses and repair or replace with solutions that are hopefully better than before! My Events team ensures that all organization sponsored events, demos and presentations are executed flawlessly. My past retail and customer service work experience helps me in relating with my staff who work in front of house roles in admissions, concierge, gift shop, cafe, and visitor relations positions. In my day to day presence as a senior manager, I endeavor to hire the right people for the job and provide my direct reports with the resources and leadership they need to get their jobs done, including: allowing them to do their job without micromanagement, procuring the right tools/ software for them, and advocating for their needs.My position also gives me the opportunity to serve on the Explore Washington Park Board of Directors as well as developing board relationships with the wonderful members of our Portland Japanese Garden Board of Trustees. I live in beautiful Camas, WA with my loving family. I also have hobbies.
