Jason was an English professor for several years, then left academia to go to law school. After practicing law for 15 years in Texas, he has returned to academia as a law professor. In his first year back in the classroom (2023-2024), he will be teaching courses in Civil Procedure, Federal Appellate Practice, State Constitutional Law, and Statutory Interpretation.In his legal practice as an appellate attorney, Jason represented a variety of clients in cases ranging in value from $80,000 to $1 billion. Jason represented these clients in both state and federal appellate courts across the country — including the Supreme Court of Texas, the Supreme Court of California, the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, the Supreme Court of Alaska, the Supreme Court of Tennessee, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Jason’s brief writing was praised by both judges and opposing counsel. One federal judge referred to Jason in a written opinion as "an excellent lawyer [who] provided vigorous, high-quality legal representation."Before going to law school, Jason earned an MFA in creative writing and a PhD in American literature, and taught literature and writing courses at several colleges and universities. Just before leaving academia for law school, he was a visiting assistant professor of English at Brigham Young University.
