Darchem Insulation Systems are world leaders and experts in the design, manufacture and installation of insulation and heat control systems. Their work scope includes bespoke systems manufactured from composite ,metallic and textile materials encapsulating insulation cores for a multitude of markets from F1 and automotive to aerospace and industrial and defense sectors.In my role at Darchem as a manufacturing engineer i report directly to the value stream manager, ensuring all production needs and requirements are met and improvements and cost savings are achieved.A large part of this role includes the planning of production parts using the live Material Resource Planning system Avante to create work instructions and bill of materials etc.Responsibilities • Train and lead manufacturing engineers within department• Set-up part planning including BOM’s, Work instructions and SOP’s• Root cause analysis and corrective actions• Procurement and sourcing of manufacturing equipment including CAPEX completion• Implementation of continuous improvement• Reviewing and working to customer specifications and internal specifications• Tooling procurement, design and buy-off• Project management from initial stages to completion• Work as part wider cross functional team to complete complex product introduction• Cognizant person for welding processes ensuring NADCAP standards are met and maintained• Complete Risk assessments when required i.e use of new equipment or change in process• Complete and maintain COSHH assessments on ChemDoc.

Sotech are leaders in the manufacture and design of rain-screen cladding facades for the building and construction industry offering standard rain-screen systems and bespoke solutions to match architects requirements.Working as a design engineer at Sotech was a very involved role, because as well as designing products, the design team are responsible for shop-floor support, maintenance and programming of machinery.During my initial period with the company i used Radan to program two flat bed routers cutting solid aluminium and ACM cladding materials into parts ready for folding and further processing.I then moved on to programming the punch for manufacture of solid aluminium parts utilizing the part picking and automatic unloading.Once I had a firm understanding in the programming of both machines I was introduced to some of Sotech's standard rain screen systems and how they were made up, from this I began modelling components in a flat pattern form using Radan.One of the largest and most prestigious projects i was involved with included the design and manufacture of over five elevations of TFC cladding for Birmingham childrens hospital.

Varied Role that included:The use of Radan software for programming the 3 laser machines, manufacturing flat pattern parts ready for further processing such as folding, welding and painting.Creating CAD models from customer drawings using inventors sheet metal package. Thus enabling in-house drawings to be produced for the manufacture of parts, the models created are also used to program the various machines around the factory.Contract review sign off where design or drawing work was required to be completed.Completion of change requests making required changes to part models and drawings when up issued or modified.Design of components for use around the factory such as safety Barriers etc.
