I was part of a small team of three storage administrators, in which I was the primary admin for "unstructured data" (i.e. NAS and object/S3).While I was there, we had NetApp ONTAP clusters ranging from a single HA pair up to five HA pairs/10 nodes which provided NAS (both NFS and CIFS/SMB) for the company (roughly 20 PiB logical). I served on the NetApp Technical Advisory Board.We had a small but growing object footprint with a four-node MinIO cluster fronted by an Nginx loadbalancer, along with a few single-use deployments.I also worked with our block storage, where we had a Cisco MDS Fibre Channel fabric and arrays from IBM, Dell EMC, HPE, and Pure.I was also on the backup/data protection team, where we used a mix of Veritas NetBackup and Commvault to send data to JBOD repositories and tape (IBM TS4k libraries with LTO-8).Outside of storage and backups, I was also a Unix administrator, working with Ubuntu and Red Hat Linux, both physical and virtualized with VMware ESXi, and IBM AIX.For administration and automation I used a mix of Bourne-family shell scripts, Python, Ansible, Perl, and M/MUMPS.

Administration of a 2 PFLOPS cluster spanning 525 compute nodes (60 of which are accelerated with NVIDIA V100/A100 cards) comprising 26,080 CPU cores with 30+ PB of GPFS (aka IBM Storage Scale) over 100 Gbps EDR/HDR InfiniBand. We used IBM's LSF for scheduling.During the time I was there, the workload was mostly genetics/genomics, about a third molecular dynamics, and some biomedical imaging work.We used a mix of xCAT, Ansible, Python, and Bash for administration.

Performed storage and database performance and scalability testing. My focus was was from the filesystem/LVM layers through the storage fabric to the arrays. I worked primarily with SCSI over Fibre Channel with XFS on Linux and JFS2 on AIX. I also did some testing of NVMe/FC on Linux (AIX support for NVMe/FC had not landed before I left this position).Administered systems in the performance test lab, including Fibre Channel SAN with arrays from most major vendors, NFS, and two to sixteen socket x86_64 and POWER servers running Linux and AIX.Automation was done with a combination of Unix shell scripts, Python, and Ansible.
