I am a very curious biologist and passionate science communicator with expertise in science education, Cannabis, pharmacognosy, and technology. As the founder of Natural Learning Enterprises, I am focused on spreading my insatiable curiosity about the natural world!Over the last 15 years, I've contributed significantly to the field of Cannabis science, helping establish one of Oregon’s first accredited Cannabis testing labs and assisting research and product manufacturing laboratories across the United States. My leadership roles have extended to directing analytical labs, directing quality systems and R&D projects for a clinical-grade Cannabis product manufacturer, consulting companies nationwide to enhance quality of products and systems, and achieving accreditations and regulatory compliance for numerous labs.In 2018, I authored the now widely-used science textbook "Curious About Cannabis", followed by an accompanying evergreen podcast with over 100,000 downloads globally. My hands-on experience with Cannabis extends to nearly every aspect of the product lifecycle, from cultivation to extraction, formulation, analysis and even half a million dollars in legal dispensary sales.Working as an educator and patient liaison, I have significantly influenced patient care and education among thousands of patients and dozens of clinicians around the world.I founded The Natural Learning Academy in 2020, an online platform focusing on conservation, pharmacognosy, and environmental education. This platform hosts educational content for various learning initiatives including "Curious About Cannabis", "A Toadstool’s Treasures" - a children's book about mycology, complemented by educational games and lesson plans - and more.Known for my calm demeanor and compassionate leadership, I employ a systems-thinking approach strongly influenced by the philosophies of W. Edwards Deming and Joseph Juran, driving continuous improvement in everything I do. I strive for regular mindfulness practice in my work inspired by the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh. When I am not wearing my scientist or educator hats, I am often found in the wild recording and producing music under the musician moniker Brother Toadstool with the band Odd by Midnight or nerding out to NES games and horror movies on the Retro Cheese YouTube channel.
