As the Controller at Gravitas Ventures, I oversee all finance and accounting operations, encompassing general ledger, treasury, and internal controls. My role is critical in optimizing external audits, tax compliance, and payroll processes. In this key senior role, I was charged with oversight of the Retail Division financial statement close process, as well as serving as the lead Corporate Accounting liaison who ensured all corporate reporting requirements were met and that full compliance was achieved. Additionally, I lead the preparation of quarterly board updates, annual divisional budgeting, P&L projections, financial forecasts and historical analysis, as well as executed detailed investment analysis work as part of the due diligence process for potential business ventures.During my tenure in this position I was able to deliver several impactful business contributions that comprised the following:• Delivery of all reporting requirements within timelines, and securing of a 50% reduction in the divisional monthly close cycle. I then went on to support the successful liquidation of retail inventory worth $600M+ in 63 different store locations This was the most profitable liquidation for the organization in 10 years.• I used my passion for quality and best practice to establish new processes and procedures that eliminated actual control deficiencies, including key control ownership responsibilities. This was achieved through adding stringency that effectively reduced control risks surrounding the revenue and accounts receivable process, as well as ensuring all SOX/404 compliance requirements were met.• I brought more control to the division level P&L summary which has enabled timelier reporting of both project and division-level profit projections, and in turn underpinned more informed decision making.
