Jasper L. Mills III is the founder of The Mills Law Group, PLLC., providing general litigation services to clients in the areas of criminal, civil, family, entertainment and corporate law. Joining the District Attorney’s Office in Albany, as an Assistant District Attorney in 2007, Jasper has held the positions Bureau Chief of Albany City Court, where he was responsible for the supervision and development of approximately four Assistant DA’s. and as prosecuting ADA with the Street Crimes Unit he prosecuted gang, gun and drug related offenses and conducted long term investigations into those responsible for the distribution of large quantities of narcotics and the investigation and prosecution of large scale drug organizations gaining national attention.In 2016, Jasper accepted an appointment as Chief Counsel to the Albany County Sheriff’s Office. where his duties included, without limitation, assisting on all legislative matters (and in some cases drafting local legislation), the negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts, advising office members on civil, criminal, legal, procedural issues, and the identification of sentinel events and implementation of training, policies and procedures necessary to avoid reoccurrence. Additionally, in 2017 Jasper was assigned as Special Prosecutor by New York Supreme Court Justice Andrew Ceresia, to investigate and litigate the matter of the "People of the State of New York verses Richard Wright". This case involved a fire set to a multi-unit dwelling, resulting in the death of two young girls on September 1, 1986. Mr. Wright’s conviction was vacated after the presentation of new evidence in the area of arson, and the judge set the matter down for a new trial. With the help of an ATF Special Agent, Jasper was able to secure another conviction 32 years after the commission of the crime. Pursuant to this conviction he was awarded 2018 Arson Prosecutor of the Year by the New York State Fire Investigators Association despite the fact this matter was the first Arson case that he had ever prosecuted and that he had not been a prosecutor since 2016.In 2019 Jasper formed the Mills Law Group, PLLC., thus providing him the opportunity to offer clients, general litigation services in the areas of criminal, civil family and entertainment law. He also educates and lectures judges throughout the State of New York on various aspects of the law. Jasper also contributes to society through his volunteer efforts and the impact that he makes on students from his community as adjunct professor at Bryant and Stratton College.
