- Conducted a research trial evaluating relationships between reproduction, blood metabolites and feed efficiency in beef cattle. Results identified measurements that were assessed for use on-farm in determining feed efficiency.- Increased efficiency and reduced cost of ultrasound image analysis by modifying an open access image analysis system (ImageJ). This enabled 3500 body composition ultrasound images to be collected and analyzed without purchasing software.- Decreased time required to calculate feed efficiency by designing a series of equations in Microsoft Excel that removed feed intake errors automatically. Using devised equations and SAS determined the feed efficiency of 140 beef cattle.- Managed research heifer calves (107) and replacement heifers (36) that were sourced from commercial cowherds. This included tagging, estrous detection, vaccination, managing animal inventories, pen allocation, bedding and feeding.
