I work with the engineering teams of Microsoft's global third-party software development partners to help them bring their products to market on Azure. I've been working with Pivotal since 2016, helping to bring products like Cloud Foundry, Concourse, GemFire, and Greenplum to to our customers on Azure, and interoperate with other pillars of the Microsoft ecosystem on premises. Similarly, I've partnered with Micro Focus since their merger with HP Enterprise Software in the fall of 2017 on their suite of enterprise products such as Vertica, ArcSight, ITOM, and ALM.

I largely subcontracted to CSG Pro as a Solution Architect, working with their most important accounts. From May '14 through January '16 I have worked principally with a Fortune 10 company on a line-of-business web application that integrates, normalizes, and enriches data from other applications, acting as Project Manager, Requirements Analyst, Technical Architect, Developer, and Quality Assurance. The app was built using HTML5, CSS3, Twitter Bootstap, TypeScript, and Angular.js on the front end, with a RESTful API written in C# WebAPI, Entity Framework, and SQL Server and Azure SQL Database on the back end. A multi-threaded service component allowed the app to run either on-prem or in the Azure Cloud.

As an employee at CSG I worked principally as a Project Manager and Requirements Analyst, across all of their consulting practices: Application Development, SharePoint, and Business Intelligence.

Under the VIZIN label I work as a one-man consulting shop. During this period I had numerous small engagements, but two larger, notable ones. The first was working with a national parts distributor, for whom I built a system to manage multiple, demographically-targeted websites all running under one e-commerce platform and inventory system (Linux, Apache httpd, mod_perl, MySQL). The other was assisting a physician practice that was migrating to an Electronic Medical Records system, by parsing a very large collection of historical MS Word documents (Windows, perl, MySQL).

Spearheaded an effort to standardize and integrate a legacy application architecture of 140+ systems and myriad business processes. This involved coordinating the actions of in-house and contract developers from 7+ different departments & consulting houses; assisting the PMO in evaluating technical risk and attacking it proactively; and reporting to nontechnical senior business executives so as to increase confidence and secure project funding. In addition, duties included technical reviews of ongoing IT projects, serving on the IT process improvement committee, and generating technical standards for future IT projects.

Responsible for managing a department that developed, maintained and operated systems for network monitoring, troubleshooting and operations. TIDS (Technical Integration & Development Services) included software developers, database administrators & system administrators working on a nationally distributed set of software/hardware systems with high uptime requirements.

Managed a national Network Operations Center, responsible for proactive and reactive 365x24 customer support for 50k+ customers. Integrated two legacy organizations (network monitoring and customer support), for a total of 80 FTE. This required organizational improvement (position descriptions, salary leveling, hiring/firing), operational improvement (creation, documentation, distribution & training of operational processes; mentoring of assistant managers & leads), resource improvement (defense of increased budget, aquisition of new tools) etc.

Managed 10 FTE including software developers, database and system administrators in support of the HoustonChronicle.com online newspaper.

Working in the Molecular Biology Computational Resource, I developed back-end software that would allow parallel searching across multiple international genetic databases. The results were then normalized and de-duped before being returned to the front-end.

In this position I provided network support, while assisting in creating new networks for TCP/IP, AppleTalk, and NetBEUI/SMB. I also worked on various network services, and in that capacity created one of the earliest web sites in the US in 1993, for www.bcm.tmc.edu.
