About Jatinder Sidhu
I moved with my family to British Columbia after more than 20 years working across the BBC’s online, radio and TV news services. My work as senior journalist included prestigious news shows including The Today Programme, The World at One and The World Tonight. Much of my career was spent covering politics; interviewing politicians in the UK, EU and around the world. I also worked on feature stories, investigations and breaking news around the globe including terrorism in France, democracy in Pakistan and dictatorship in Egypt.In the time since leaving the BBC I've worked as a freelance reporter, community volunteer and principal homemaker (raising three 'inbetweeners').In 2021 I joined with other leaders in West Vancouver to form Positive Voices, a non-profit advocacy group to build support for local government action on climate change, housing and transport. This year we're going to get Jeremy over the line.As an environmental engineer, who's served as an elected councillor AND as local government employee, Jeremy brings an evidence-based, solutions-focused and yet pragmatic approach.We can and should be supporting the new Green economy - such as the many innovative clean tech companies up and down the Sea to Sky corridor - instead of subsidising the extractive, polluting industries of yesteryear.I'm motivated by the strong conviction that we owe it to our kids to do all we can to tackle climate change. I also believe, as do many residents of the Sea to Sky, that safeguarding this extraordinary place that we are priveleged to call home, is essential to maintaining our health and wellbeing.Fundamentally we believe that governments must be held accountable for the results they deliver, and an approach that truly wants to tackle our big challenges must prioritize wellbeing. So housing as a human right, rather than an investment vehicle; regional transit for affordability and equity; and prioritizing mental health services and preventative health, which would reduce the pressure on our health system.
