About Javan Howard
Javan Howard is a poet and writer from the Bronx, NY. He graduated with a B.A. in Africana Studies and Minor in Creative Writing and Poetry from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. He is also a 2011 AmeriCorps Alum with the NY Juvenile Justice Corps where he was placed with The New York State Office of Children and Family Services for almost 2 years. Howard had the opportunity to mentor incarcerated youth in NYC through poetry workshops where students strengthen their voices and cultivate their creative talentsHoward is a poet and writer from the Bronx, NY. He truly believes that the lived experience is the ultimate teaching tool and uses poetry as a social forum to foster discourse about love, culture, and identity.He has facilitated poetry, community and identity based workshops with The New York State Office of Children and Family Services(OCFS), Voices UnBroken, Community-Word Project Teachers & Writers Collabortive, The Go Project, Wingspan Arts and Usdan Arts Summer Camp.
