Javier Crespo Anadon Work Experience Details
  • Cedrion
Thermal Engineer (Computer Simulations And Tests)
    Cedrion Sep 2022 - Jun 2023
    Madrid, Community Of Madrid, Spain
My job consisted of the design and testing of thermal management solutions. For that, I perform edcomputer simulations and experiments. My responsibilities also included the mechanical design (CAD) of prototypes and test benches. All thermal management solutions used Cedrion's technology of inducing a flow (usually air) by a "corona" (electric) discharge, which has the advantage of being low-weight and low-noise. Projects objetives dealt with the thermal management of electronic units for the aerospace, defense and automotive sectors.
  • Safran
    Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer
    Safran Oct 2018 - Sep 2022
    Bordes, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France
I worked with the personnel at the department of fluid mechanics and energetics performing fluid mechanics and thermal studies for Safran HE new engine configurations/sub-systems. The final objective was to mature a new engine design with a hybrid-electric architecture. I have increased my experience in physical processes modeling (combustion, chemistry, fluid mechanics, heat transfer), programming (python, fortran), commercial (ANSYS, Centaur) and non-commercial (AVBP, Paraview) modeling software. This work involved strong interactions with external laboratories (PPRIME and CORIA in France, NTNU at Norway). My key achievements were:-Determination of the ignition envelope (minimum fuel-air ratio and flow velocity) for a new architecture of engines (spinning combustion). High-fidelity simulation of the process for lighting all the injectors in the combustor-Coding subroutines into the in-house CFD solver to model the energy deposition process of a high-energy short-duration igniter. Modification of the chemical scheme subroutine to eliminate numerical oscillations which prevented the attainment of results.-Validation and verification of computational fluid mechanics related to turbulent combustion. For example: a new version of the thickened-flame model and diverse flame-wrinkling factor formulations.
  • Mitsubishi Heavy Industries
    Test Engineer
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Sep 2016 - Sep 2018
    Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States
Design and construction of a high pressure test-facility running carbon dioxide for testing CO2 compressors designs for CCS. The design part consisted in doing CFD simulations to select the optimal geometry, CAD drawings for manufacturing new parts, structural safety studies and improvement of measuring and control software (LabView) of the facility. I also obtained negotiation experience with external suppliers to obtain ancillary material (e.g. advanced sealing solutions to prevent leakages, high-strength fasteners) and advanced manufacturing operations which I could not do in-house. I worked alongside a laboratory technician and with the health and safety department. My key achievements were:-Construction of facility (piping, sealing, equipment selection) to test CO2 expansion ratios covering the full operating range of MHI compressors-Determination of a new limit before condensation which enables CO2 compressors to operate at maximum efficiency in dense conditions (near the 2-phase boundary)-Cost saving: Determination that the condensation limit does not depend on the compressor leading edge geometry for typical geometries, thus reducing testing costs.
  • Ansaldo Energia
    Combustion Engineer
    Ansaldo Energia Sep 2015 - Sep 2016
    Genoa, Liguria, Italy
Work on mitigating thermoacoustic instabilities (pressure oscillations induced by heat release oscillations) in an Ansaldo's gas turbine combustor. Main tools used were Matlab/Simulink and in-house codes. The main achievement was the creation of a software tool which predicted the growth rate of pressure oscillations in an Ansaldo combustor and whose results were successfully validated against company's internal experimental data. I obtained experience in combustion, acoustics and advanced analytical modeling (e.g. transfer functions and Green's function method).
  • Expal (Maxam Group)
Lead Engineer Aerodynamics & Flight Mechanics
Expal (Maxam Group) Dec 2012 - Sep 2013
    Madrid Area, Spain
I was in charge of the technical lead in the evaluation of EXPAL's ammunition flight mechanics and aerodynamic properties for its certification and integration into the clients platforms. I reported directly to the chief project manager. My main tasks were:-Ensure compliance of Expal products with the client platforms according to standards (MIL-STD)-Produce and review technical documentation to support business product areas (aviation, field ammunition...) E.g. trajectories calculations, drag properties of projectiles, stability in flight...-Technical liaison with project partners and contractors (Universities and enterprises). One example: Smart propellants project with Polytechnic University of Cartagena to develop new propulsion technologies. INNPACTO program (Funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science)-Manage team (typically 1-2 persons)
  • Expal Systems
    R&D Engineer
    Expal Systems Jul 2012 - Dec 2012
    Madrid, Community Of Madrid, Spain
Project to integrate EXPAL aviation products on Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jet in collaboration with a British partner. I reported to the project manager for this programme. Main activities:-CFD study in Ansys Fluent of EXPAL product aerodynamics (drag coefficient, static and dynamic coefficients...)-Finite Element study using Nastran to ensure structural integrity within the flight envelope.I obtained experience in technical documentation related to defense, reading technical drawings and international project collaboration.
