I believe that creative music exists to inspire, motivate, and connect people with themselves and each other.I’m a Mexican born, Chicago-based modern jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader. Although primarily self-taught, I’ve had several key mentors including classical pianist Michel Block and cutting-edge jazz improvisers Ralph Alessi and Steve Coleman. I was exposed from a young age to the Mexican popular music of my grandparents’ generation, Latin American protest music (trova), 80s pop music, Classical music (especially Stravinsky), and jazz. These sounds continue to inform my musical voice, expanding my reach beyond mainstream contemporary jazz. In 2019, I released Ephemeral Certainties, my debut album with my Chicago quartet Imagery Converter, on the historic Delmark Records Label, and it was selected as the NPR Jazz Critics Poll best debut album of 2019. ​I have played in some of the most important venues in Mexico, such as Palacio de Bellas Artes and CENART, as well as important venues around the world such as Beijing Haidan Centre, Washington Kennedy Center, and Notre Dame University DeBartolo Performing Arts Center.​ I have been invited for multiple festivals such as Eurojazz, Festival Cervantino, Havana-Cuba Jazz Festival, and Lima Jazz Festival among others.
