About Javier Cabrera

I'm a tech enthusiast from Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a passion for web development and entrepreneurship. I enjoy creating immersive and engaging gaming experiences with cutting-edge technology. As a freelancer, I have worked on various projects using different web technologies (front and back end), such as PHP, Node, React, Ruby on Rails, and Python. • Cabrera Brothers
    Owner
Cabrera Brothers Dec 2012 - Present
    Buenos Aires
With my design studio growing strong, I took a chance to pursue a childhood passion with Cabrera Brothers, a game studio I co-founded. We worked hard to create our first game, 'CYPHER: Cyberpunk Text Adventure,' and decided to self-publish it despite the competition since it was not a 3D game but an adventure based just on text. The game surprised everyone and received critical acclaim. It was named by Gaming Enthusiast as 'one of the 30 Best Text-Adventures/Interactive-Fiction Games Over 5 Decades.' Penny Arcade called it 'a sexy, violent, neo-noir adventure told through text, clever puzzles, and beautiful art,' and The Verge complimented the game's art and visual immersion. This game project was a great opportunity for me to create an engaging and immersive experience, as well as to learn new technologies and methodologies in the field. I used languages such as C++, C#, and TypeScript, and experimented with VisualScripting and other tools related to game development and game engines. I also expanded my web development skills by working with Node, React, and the latest JavaScript frameworks to handle the different parts of the online sales.
  • Free Bundle Magazine
Owner, Publisher, Designer Of Free Bundle Magazine
Free Bundle Magazine Jan 2020 - Nov 2021
    Argentina
One of my personal projects was The Free Bundle, a digital science fiction magazine that aimed to capture the spirit and style of classic authors like Asimov and Bradbury. I was a full stack developer for this project, using technologies such as React, Node, PHP, and databases to create an interactive and engaging platform for the readers. I was also involved in curating and editing the content of the magazine, which included stories, articles, interviews, and reviews. Some of the mini projects that I worked on as part of The Free Bundle were:- An ARG (Alternative Reality Game) that created an immersive and mysterious narrative for the readers, attracting close to 3000 subscribers who participated in solving puzzles, finding clues, and uncovering secrets.- Five thematic newsletters that covered different aspects of science fiction, such as cyberpunk, space opera, dystopia, time travel, and post-apocalyptic. These newsletters eventually merged into one main newsletter that reached close to 16,000 subscribers who enjoyed the curated content and recommendations.- A Digital Trading Card system that allowed the readers to collect and trade cards featuring various science fiction themes, such as Star Wars, H.P. Lovecraft, Blade Runner, and more. The cards had different rarities and values, and the readers could use them to unlock exclusive content and rewards on the magazine website.- A PDF magazine that was published bi-monthly, featuring original and classic science fiction stories, as well as interviews with authors, artists, and experts in the field. The magazine had a loyal and enthusiastic fan base who appreciated the quality and diversity of the content. The Free Bundle was a challenging and rewarding project that allowed me to showcase my skills as a developer and a content creator. It also gave me the opportunity to explore my passion for science fiction and to connect with other fans and professionals in the genre.
