Uss New York (Lpd-21)

Commanding Officer I was responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational excellence of the ship, ensuring mission success and +400 crew welfare. I was thrilled to lead a diverse team of highly skilled Sailors, across a wide range of missions, exercises, and operations, including a challenging 12 month $160 million ship’s maintenance and modernization package.I also administered and oversaw the organization, performance of duty, and good order and discipline for the ship directly affecting retention, recruitment, and advancement.Most memorable accomplishment was molding a 380-crew into unbeatable team. Completed major maintenance availability early – a first for a ship of this kind in over 10 yrs. Generated advancement rates outpacing Navy averages.

I had the pleasure of leading a 40-member team during a complex cross enterprise planning and execution effort. The work was delivered directly to the Secretary of Defense and the President of the United States. This was a challenging and rewarding tour that allowed me to use innovation, problem solving skills, and the power of relationships to solve complex problems.

Research - Strategic DeterrenceOne of the most rewarding experiences in my career was my selection to represent the Navy as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. I was exposed to an ecosystem of innovation that is unmatched in the east coast and comparable to Silicon Valley. I was able to expertly communicate the broader naval efforts and offered strategic perspective to leaders and innovators within the organization.

Uss Momsen (Ddg 92)

At that time, this was the biggest and most important professional accomplishment of my Navy career. I led a diverse team of 350 highly skilled Sailors, across a wide range of missions, exercises, and operations, including two challenging deployments while meeting 100% of combat tasking. I was challenged in managing a $41M ship’s maintenance and emergent repairs package.

I had the privilege of serving at Naval Air Station Key West, Florida, Joint Interagency Task Force South (JIATF South). I was the lead planner for the main operation for this organization. Which is still in execution. This operation -- Operation Martillo (Hammer) is a multi-national detection, monitoring and interdiction operation conducted by U.S. Navy and Coast Guard vessels and aircraft as well as U.S. federal law enforcement assets working in cooperation with military and law enforcement units from various Central and South American nations, Canada, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. I also skillfully articulated the unique challenges and requirements to other Partner Nations, resulting in unprecedented level of regional support by Government of Canada. However, the most interesting project that I led was a deployment of a $20M, first ever, Department of Defense, use of an Unmanned Air Vehicle in Panama.

I was both the Operations Officer and Chief Staff Officer for this squadron. We were in charge of 5 surface combatant ships. I had the lead to plan and prepare over 780 personnel during a Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster relief operation in Central and South America. Expertly communicated and coordinated with US Embassies, host nations, and non-Governmental organizations which ensured the success of this unconventional operation.

I was the Damage Control Assistant (DCA) in charge of all the Damage Control training requirements, ship drills, ship inspections and/or casualty investigations for the ship. I was in charge of the entire training plan and prepared the ship to survive and recover from a casualty and/or combat operations. I provided technical advice on damage control issues to the Damage Control Officer.
