Javier E. López, currently serves as General Counsel for the Alaska National Guard and as the Staff Judge Advocate for the Alaska Army National Guard.He earned a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Puerto Rico, in 1995; and graduated from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico, School of Law in 1998. He served Honorably with the United States Marine Corps from 1989 until 1997. He’s currently a Major with the Judge Advocate General's Corps in the Alaska Army National Guard. In 2010, he deployed to Kosovo as Legal Assistance, Claims Judge Advocate and Foreign Claims Commissioner. From 2012 to 2013 he also served as Trial Defense Counsel in the CENTOM AOR, Southern Field Office, in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait. In 2015, he earned a Masters Degree in Military Law with a Civil and Administrative Law Specialty from the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School in Charlottesville, VA. Before joining the Alaska National Guard, he served four years as a National Guard Bureau, Regional Special Victims’ Counsel in the East (National Capital Region) and Alaska (Northwest Region).His decorations include, the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1 olc), Army Achievement Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal w/ bs, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M and Bronze hourglass devices, and numeral 2, National Defense Service Medal w/bs, Joint Service Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Afghanistan and Kosovo Campaign Medals, Global War on Terror Service and Expeditionary Medals, Nato Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (2).He is a member of the Puerto Rico Bar Association, Puerto Rico Notaries Association, he is also admitted to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (CAAF), Court of Appeal for Veteran’s Claims and the Supreme Court of the United States.
