As a scientist, my everyday passion is Biocatalysis and deal with Biochemistry and Industrial Microbiology for biotechnological processes. I have been an enzyme engineer working with ligninolytic oxidoreductases for more than 8 years at the laboratory of Dr M. Alcalde at the Institute of Catalysis of Madrid (ICP-CSIC). While pursuing my doctoral studies in directed evolution, I have had an amazing opportunity to cover a broad spectrum of biocatalytic sciences, from Molecular Biology to enzyme production with lab-scale fermenters. During these years I have successfully expressed fungal and bacterial enzymes in different yeast and bacterial systems; I have applied several protein purification strategies (precipitation, tangential flow filtration, chromatography…) and characterized in detail the biochemical properties of different enzymes. Analytical Chemistry has always been my favorite area of Chemistry and during these years I have developed high-throughput screening assays for mutant detection, become familiar with HPLC and nowadays I am learning GC-MS analysis.
