IDEA-FAST is a research project that explores how data captured from multiple sensing devices can be used to provide objective and reliable digital measures for fatigue and sleep disturbances across a range of neurodegenerative or immune-mediated diseases. My role has involved:• Led a team of two software engineers to develop systems to automate data transfer from sensing devices and a mobile application to support patients engaging in a research study.• Wireframed a mobile application to visualise data created from wearing multiple sensing devices to incentivise when patients wear devices without revealing health data.• Setup a containerised infrastructure for development and to provide ongoing support, e.g., ticketing (zammad) and surveys (limesurvey).• Supervised MSc and BSc student's dissertations on a range of topics, including: (i) designing interactions with and visualising health data from multiple sensing devices; and (ii) visualising social media usage data to support self-reflection on well-being.
Doctoral Researcher (Phd Thesis)
• Applied participatory research methods to iteratively design, develop, and evaluate five digital prototypes to enhance and explore the qualitative research process of practitioners in small (12 participants) and large-scale (600+) studies.• Designed and developed a digital platform (Gabber) that structures the capture and annotation of audio interviews, annotating the audio directly as the analysis stage, and using analysed snippets to share insights through audio playlists.• Led co-research deployments and embedded fieldwork with organisations that include: (i) the National Health Service (NHS); (ii) a charity that delivers services to vulnerable adults; and (iii) the world’s largest humanitarian network (IFRC).• Evaluated field deployments using qualitative (e.g., interviews, Wizard of Oz) and quantitative (e.g., log analysis) methods.
Research Consultant (Digital Health)
• Led the systematic usability evaluation of 24 commercial and medical-grade sensing devices and associated software for monitoring health that informed which devices were selected for a clinical trial feasibility study.• Designed and delivered workshops to academics, clinicians, and manufacturers of sensing devices to capture expert user-experience reviews on the look, comfort, and feel of these sensing devices to inform the device selection process.• Co-led a public engagement of 100+ participants to evaluate the experience wearing these devices across 4 dance sessions. • Applied mixed methods to gather evidence across these engagements, e.g., questionnaires, workshops, and interviews.

• Researched and designed WellnessTalk, a digital prototype that uses aggregated data from mobile application usage to support personal reflection on how individual's digital and offline habits impact their mental health and wellbeing.• Designed, scripted, and coordinated the voice-over and production of a video concept to illustrate the problem space, research question, and design response (WellnessTalk) to inform discussions between clinicians and the general public.
