About Jay Boyle

Each of us manages risk in some manner, every day. The choices we make have costs and benefits (risks and rewards). This intersection of decision-making and risk management is what I have enjoyed most during my career in financial services - whether dealing with customers in the early years, leading risk management teams, or building the firm's Vendor Management Center of Excellence more recently.Career experiences have taught me the following about myself:- I can successfully build teams by understanding people's passions and skills, aligning them to our mission, and by creating an equitable situation for everyone in our organization. - I enjoy solving problems with technology - regardless of the current trends (big data, analytics, automation, etc.) technology can be an enabler for efficient and effective work habits and certainly supports risk management activities when deployed appropriately.- I love to win, but helping the team win gives me greater satisfaction - especially if it assists people with their career development and future opportunities.- Forming an opinion, voicing your position, and engaging in candid debate are critical to the culture of the teams I lead, but sometimes remaining silent and simply listening are more important qualities to demonstrate.- My legacy will not be based only upon projects successfully implemented, risks mitigated, cost savings, or other similar accomplishments and metrics; rather, the ongoing success of the teams I've built and people I've developed will speak volumes about my leadership and the value I've delivered in my career.Areas of specialty: Managing Vendor Risk, Automated Controls, Model Risk, Privacy Compliance, Risk Assessments, Managing People, Creation of Risk Framework, Regulatory Communications, Governance, Oversight, Supervisory Controls, Data Governance, IT Risk, Incident Management, Executive Reporting

Jay Boyle Work Experience Details
  • Fidelity Investments
    Vice President Of Risk
Fidelity Investments Dec 2020 - Present
    Boston, Ma, Us
My current team is focused in two areas: - Managing a portfolio of the firm's most critical vendors, representing an annual spend of more than $1B.- Monitoring and oversight of regulatory mailings to customers to ensure compliance with prevailing rules (examples include prospectuses, statements, and trade confirmations for paper and e-delivery).In my leadership capacity, I ensure the team is compliant with the global vendor management policy, which establishes clear expectations and standards for oversight of vendor relationships. Specifically:- Completion of activities related to risk rating and tiering of our suppliers.- Timely review of supplier's information protection and technology controls.- Reviewing vendor resiliency plans and financial health and remediating any gaps or program weaknesses.- Ensuring supplier compliance to contractual obligations through periodic performance management sessions with senior executives. On the regulatory mailings side, we are responsible for a variety of activities in a highly regulated space:- Delivery assurance - reconciling delivery against source files to ensure communications are triggered and delivered as required by regulations.- Reviewing content of some communications by sampling to validate key data elements and required disclosures.- Monitoring the processes and associated systems used to deliver documents, both paper and email.
  • Fidelity Investments
    Vice President Of Risk
    Fidelity Investments Jan 2015 - Dec 2020
    Boston, Ma, Us
Automated Controls Testing and OversightIn support of our clearing broker-dealer activities, I built a team responsible for assessing, testing, and overseeing a variety of automated tools and controls, including: technology controls and edits, mainframe trading restrictions, key reports, user developed applications, "bots" (robotic process automation), and models. This team was built with associates from a variety of backgrounds that were instrumental in it's success - auditors, engineers, technologists, and business experts. We invested time to upskill so that automation and data analytics tools could be used for full population testing and deconstruction of the code for these tools and controls. Over the five years of leading the team, we improved our testing and assessment coverage within the business 25% annually, and continued to add value by finding issues and assisting with solutions to resolve them.
