Dawnus has commenced works on a £1.75m project to build a new split-level Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Truro. The new facility at Tregurra Park is due to open in Spring 2019 and will become the 14th Council-owned HWRC in Cornwall, three of which have been completed by Dawnus. The scheme involves the construction of reinforced concrete retaining walls and bays, external hard standings, a fuel storage tank and parking areas. Work will also include a tie-in to the access road, foul and surface water drainage, utility connections, external lighting, and landscaping works. Waste from Cornwall’s existing recycling centres will be recycled and used in the construction of the new HWRC. Our client Suez manages the Cornwall Energy Recovery Centre in St Dennis; waste from local recycling centres is taken to this facility and burnt. The Incinerator Bottom Ash Aggregate (IBAA) is then graded to create a compliant fill material, which will be used to raise the site levels at Tregurra Park.
