Hands of a Gardener, Eyes of an Explorer, Heart of a Teacher, Mind of an EngineerA GardenerMore than a “builder”, someone described my impact as a “gardener”, planting and nurturing dynamic and growing products and teams. I’m happy to be described as a gardener. It captures my role and also the result. An ExplorerI love to work without a pre-defined roadmap or plan, guiding a team through uncharted spaces, with the analytical skills to fill in the map and plan. I thrive on those experiences.A trailblazer needs a passion for learning — a rapid climb up a learning curve. After years of leading "learning teams" I now work with learning machines, software intelligences that turn big data into powerful insight. What an exciting frontier!A TeacherI never aspired to be a teacher and mentor; that just happened. That’s the common thread across my many roles in product, operations, engineering, or consulting. I’m the connector — the communicator across diverse functions. When integrating a cross-functional team, clarity is key. I’ve created training courses, documentation, and “technology explainer” papers. I learn fast and fully, and can make complex ideas clear for engineers, managers, marketing, or ops. I’ve done all those jobs, and know how to connect with them.An EngineerI was made for engineering. Born with a mind to solve puzzles, engineering training gave me tools for bigger challenges. I used that skill in product development and business management before taking an engineering role, but an analytical, problem-solving mind is a solid foundation for all pursuits. People I meet often say, “you must be an engineer”. I guess it shows.Beyond work tooMy passion for learning and challenge extends beyond work. Conquering challenges in fitness and health and exploring leadership in sports and community; these reach back into my work. Trailblazing like an explorer, solving complex issues like an engineer, communicating like a teacher, and nurturing teams and solutions like a gardener — at work and play these are my key contributions.Let’s make something great! Is your team moving into uncharted spaces? Are your big opportunities on the other side of a blank roadmap? I've got the eyes, mind, heart and hands to chart a path to success with you!
