I served in this capacity for the Minister of International Trade (Mar 2014 - present); Minister of Technology, Innovation, and Citizens' Services (June 2013 - Mar 2014); Minister of Agriculture (Sep 2012 - June 2013); and Minister of Transportation (Jan - Sep 2012)Key Responsibilities:- Served as the senior political advisor to the Minister, responsible for managing an office and budget for 4-6 staff.- Developed positive working relationships with stakeholders, government officials, and counterparts in federal, provincial, municipal and First Nations governments, and utilize those relationships to problem solve, address areas of mutual concern, and identify opportunities to collaborate.- Developed and implemented policy, communications and event plans that allowed the Minister to meet strategic objectives.- Monitored media, managed emerging issues, co-ordinated rapid response and crisis management efforts.- Developed media and event plans and speaking notes.Key files:-Matters of international trade, including Trans-Pacific Partnership, CETA, Canada - Korea Free Trade Agreement, NAFTA and WTO challenges.-Matters of internal trade, including development of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement, and advancement of the New West Partnership.-Venture Capital and the development of the BCTech Fund.-International Business Development, including BC's Asia trade strategy and export development.-Procurement

- Developed and implemented communications plans for Minister Day.- Acted as chief spokesperson for the Minister, monitored media, developed key messages, coordinated media interviews, and built relationships with members of the media.- Planned and coordinated announcements and press conferences.- Worked with the Director of Policy and policy advisors to identify communications opportunities for forthcoming policy initiatives.- Worked with the Director of Parliamentary Affairs to identify legislative activity that required a communications plan.- Worked with the Prime Minister’s Office and other Minister’s Offices to coordinate messaging, regional strategies, and national roll-outs such as the Open Government and Open Data initiatives.
