A First Year UB-SIM student, currently double majoring in Bachelor of the Arts - Psychology and Bachelor of the Arts - Sociology all due to my fervent passion in both psychology and sociology through exposure to volunteer work when I was in secondary school. With the rise of social issues and mental health discourses over the recent years, I wanted to use my knowledge to help others. While doing research on psychology and sociology on my own through the convenience of the internet, I wanted to explore the different types of mediums and platforms I can employ to provide help and thus enrolled in Singapore Polytechnic, graduating with the Diploma in Creative Writing for TV and New Media (DTVM). By my final year of DTVM, I have been part of several documentaries and short films that explore various social issues and one of them is 'Food Beyond Borders', which focused on the people who were gravely affected by the Singapore-Malaysia border restrictions during COVID-19. I was the editor, script supervisor, grip and interviewer in this documentary, which was credited with an honourable mention in the 2021 Kuala Lumpur International Film Festival in the Sky (KLIFFS) and was also a nominee for the finals of the CrowBar Awards 2021. After such accomplishment, it has further inspired me to venture more into the study of psychology and sociology so that I can learn to help others through other mediums. With the skills and knowledge I have attained through my diploma, I am currently still doing producing, writing and video production as a media freelancer while attending University. With the long-term goal to contribute for the betterment of society, I will continue to strive to use my variety of acquired skills and knowledge to help people through various platforms be it through my media skills, volunteerism or in potential social work or psychotherapy sectors after I graduate from UB-SIM.To find out how I can add value to your company and organisation, please feel free to contact me at foojingshuen@gmail.com
