Jay Gorman Work Experience Details
  • Jrg Apparel
    President
    Jrg Apparel 2008 - Present
With a vision to create moderately priced clothing brands, I relied on a background in denim bottoms and a history of strengthening relationships with manufacturers to launch a factory-direct clothing company. Since launching operations with the Indigo Rein and Rocks & Indigo trademarks, we expanded to five clothing brands, including Banjara, Blue Rein and Standard & Grind. As the founder, I set the corporate vision, secured capital investment, architected operations and infrastructure, govern the P&L, and manage a fluid business in a fast market. ● Develop nimble product management and sourcing strategies to maintain stable revenue, ensuring consistent product-market fit. ● Manage relationships with factories in China, Indonesia, Bangladesh and other countries to manage costs, ensure compliance and quality and drive connectivity to deliver goods within 75 days. ● Adapted to changing macroeconomics to build profitable organization with up to $40M+ in revenue in recent years.● Grew footprint to more than 30 retail partners, including Amazon, Macy’s, Nordstrom, Target, Kohl’s, TJ Maxx, Ross, Dillard’s, Tilly’s and Forever 21.● Increased revenue by ~25% by developing private-label brands for select retailers. ● Source 100% recycled materials and employ eco-friendly dyes to create sustainable brand for Indigo Rein. ● Diversified product mix by launching woven tops and bottoms for Indigo Rein.
  • Iconix International
    President, Mudd Jeans
    Iconix International 2004 - 2007
    Palm Beach, Florida, Us
I was recruited by Dick Gilbert to transform the Mudd Jeans brand after years of declining sales and relevance. Leading a team of 70, together we overhauled the brand identity, rebuilt manufacturing and retailer relationships and streamlined operations. ● Overhauled the brand and subsequently attracted its sale to Iconix Brand Group for $88M in 2006. ● Improved cash flow and fiscal sustainability by retooling the entire supply chain and reducing overhead by renegotiating pricing with factories, improving credit models, and offshoring operations, including sample-making. ● Restored brand to growth, increasing revenue by $35M, focused primarily on the Kohl’s partnership, which later became its exclusive retail partner. ● Recruited a new design team focused on fun, updated teen trends for the entire product line based on extensive customer insight.
  • Bbc Apparel Group
    Vice President Of Sales
    Bbc Apparel Group 1999 - 2004
Recruited by the owner for my “seller-first” reputation, I evolved the company direction, creating compelling brand strategies for the Dollhouse and JuJu brands and grew distribution. ● Expanded new accounts by 3X to more than 30 by pursuing and nurturing relationships with mid-tier department stores and specialty retailers.● Opened a NYC showroom to cement the company presence.● Doubled sales volume during tenure by reframing product and pricing and communicating the product-market fit to retailers.
  • Jordache
Vice President Of Sales, Gasoline Brand
    Jordache 1997 - 1999
    New York, Ny, Us
I joined Jordache to revitalize its dormant Gasoline brand of denim with the goal to rebuild its reputation, re-enter retailers and strengthen the overall Jordache portfolio. ● Relaunched the brand and grew the business to $20M in two years. ● Repositioned the brand and merchandising strategy to create a true juniors brand.
