I came into my career in healthcare on a stretcher. A patient experience in the 1980’s left an indelible impression on me that deep and broad change was needed across this most personal of industries.I have had the pleasure of serving as CEO of hospitals and health delivery systems ranging from $25M to nearly $1B in annual revenues. It has been a blessing to serve great organizations alongside outstanding frontline caregivers, physicians, Boards and teams. Together we achieved best in class results including the following:• Top 5% in the nation for Clinical Excellence • 99th percentile physician satisfaction • Dartmouth Atlas recognition as a top performing region of the nation• 98th percentile nationally for Case Mix Adjusted ALOS• Lowest readmission rates amongst peers in Oregon• “Best Places to Work” – top 6 in the state of Oregon• Multiple financial turnarounds, strong OEBIDA performance, and a 250%+ increase in days cash.• Personally named as a top ten pioneer and innovator by Oregon Business Magazine. In this work, I also led the implementation of a progressive regional population health model that received national recognition for care coordination, cost reduction, proper utilization, physician alignment, and satisfaction. Building on these longitudinal experiences, I founded a boutique consultancy called The James Marshall Group. JMG led multiple Boards and CEOs through the renaissance period of healthcare, crafting creative new models that enable organizations to thrive in the unfolding reform landscape. In July 2016, I merged JMG's professional services work with my longtime colleague and friend Mike Bonetto of Nexus Health Strategies to form Tenfold Health. Tenfold combines the best of our two firms in creating bold new payor and provider models across the nation. I serve on the boards of several for profit and non-profit companies, both within and outside of healthcare.
