Jay Kleinman directs Family Support services for Lifespire, a large non-profit organization that provides a wide range of services to individuals with intellectual disabilities throughout the New York metropolitan area. Jay coordinates several home-based intervention programs in the boroughs of Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. The programs include crisis intervention, behavior management, and life skills training. Additionally, Jay supervises an ISS case management program. Serving in the position since 1993, Jay has added new services and written funded proposals for expansions of existing services. From 2013 to 2018, he served as co-chair of the Brooklyn Family Support Committee, a panel of professionals, parents and stakeholders. In that capacity he helped organize the annual Brooklyn Family Support Fair, in which more than 100 agencies and 700 individuals participate. Additionally, in 2017 he began assisting in the coordination of the Queens Family Support Fair. Prior to directing Family Support services, Jay was a psychiatric social worker in Lifespire's Article 31 clinic for two years. Jay earned his bachelor's degree in psychology and communication from SUNY-Geneseo, and completed his master's degree in social work at the University of Buffalo. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and SIFI certified.In his free time, Jay teaches chess and is ranked in the 94th percentile of U.S. tournament chess players. In 2009, he defeated an International Master in the Queens Chess Club Championship.
