Spent my sabbatical for Fall 2021 working in the Physics department at Morehouse. I wrote both research and educational proposals in collaboration with Profs. Wesley Sims and Eddie Red, helping to upgrade the laboratory courses in the department. I also taught Electronics as well as Optics and Modern Physics Lab.

Participant in National Academy of Sciences Research Associateships Program performing research for US Army ARDEC at Watervliet Arsenal. Studying the properties of "black silicon" films, which are formed via ion-implantation followed by pulsed laser melting using a Nd:YAG laser. Part of a collaboration with research groups at Harvard, MIT, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and University at Albany. Projects include time-resolved and steady-state microwave photoconductivity experiments, Raman spectroscopy, experimental automation and motion control, numerical modeling, and design of experiments.

Studied optical and electrical properties of Group IV alloys. Projects included design, fabrication, and characterization of GeSn waveguides and fabrication of the first devices from SiGeSn alloys.

Dissertation: "Investigation of light absorption and emission in Ge and GeSn films grown on Si substrates"Studied electrical, optical, and structural properties of Ge and GeSn materials through fabrication and characterization of microelectronics. Designed and built IR device characterization system and IR photoluminescence system. Realized first GeSn devices, and measured first optical emission from GeSn materials.

Advanced programming in LabVIEW for various applications including hardware interfacing and control, graphical data analysis, and report production. Also used advanced programming techniques such as state machines.

Research in high energy particle physics. My work involved design, assembly, and testing of experimental apparatus for the T2K neutrino oscillation experiment. Duties included fabrication of parts in machine shop and programming in LabVIEW. Research adviser: Prof. Robert Wilson.

Participant in the National Science Foundation's Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Penn State University. I worked in the MEMS group in the Electrical Engineering Department to help package and test a micro-machined quartz crystal microbalance for measurement of adsorption of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). Research adviser: Prof. Srinivas Tadigadapa.

Studied properties of poly- and quasi-crystalline materials using resonant ultrasound spectroscopy. Duties included sample preparation and data acquisition. Research adviser: Prof. Robert Leisure.

Worked with research group on measuring mass of the neutrino. Duties included helping to maintain UHV system, computer programming, and machining of parts. Research adviser: Prof. William Fairbank.
