About Jay Mclean Phd

I endeavour to keep it simple. He aha te mea nui o tāku ao?What is the most important thing in my world? He tangata, he whānau, he whakapapaIt is the people, it is family, it is where we come fromWe spend a significant amount of time at work; in fact, for many of us who work full time, we spend more days at work than we do with our families. So I ask the question: How do we thrive at work?My research focus is stress - eustress - the good stress. Stress is the natural wear and tear of a system. From the cradle to the grave, our human response systems are in a constant state of stress. It's not all bad; for the most part, there is plenty of good if we stress wisely.I explore how we can stress wisely, foster eustress and thrive at work. The aim is to support people to live a more meaningful and productive life and realise the potential that exists in every human being. I have devoted my life to designing, developing and deploying systems and processes that help shape a environment which fosters eustress and thriving at work. The business case is simple. People feeling good and doing well at work pays huge dividends. Not only because people give more and get better, add value and feel valued, but also because positive psychological and social capital adds tremendous value to the world at large. Raising our psychological and social capital requires leadership. Not the superhero version. I believe leadership is about people in a relationship and connected to a worthy endeavour (WE) which engages their strengths, effort and interest to continuously improve, develop and achieve inspirational outcomes. However, it is far from simple. It is about people, which makes it extremely complex. Most days I gain much benefit, some days I lose and cry. But most of all, thanks to the people, whānau, and where we come from, I am thriving and living the life well-lived.Ngā mihi nā, Jay
