The public information officer is the communications coordinator of a regional office at IOM. In this position I worked closely with program managers, local media, the United Nations Communication Group and other global stakeholders to communicate about the organizations operations in counter human trafficking, medical screening of refugees, reintegration of diaspora and other migration initiatives. was in charge of all communications material that had anything to do with our operations. This includes drafting press releases for joint statements between Ambassadors and the Chief of Mission, Social Media posts and management, interviewing refugees all around the country to tell their stories over social media, print material creation and distribution and creation of internal communications such as org charts and internal newsletters.The position allowed me to work with Impact Hub Rwanda to create a campaign that would bring migrants and local people together to celebrate diversity and cosmopolitanism in the city. The campaign was called the I Am Kigali and during my time as the public information intern I helped plan, manage and fundraiser for the project.
