Developed an understanding of fermentation optimisation and continuous improvement. Exposure to industry standard techniques/processes including: PCRs, high throughput screening and automation systems.Individual Project:During my placement I investigated alternative sustainable carbon sources that could be used in our bio process. This was focused towards contributing to sustainability efforts being implemented and looking forward to meeting 2030 net zero climate impact goals. I presented to the wider department results summarising the suitable candidates that achieved an equivalent production titre and future work needed to implement these sources.Key Responsibilities and Achievements:- Handled the day-to-day fermentation processes in their entirety including: set-up, sampling, yield analysis, wash up and media development to provide data for external partners- Achieved an equivalent titre using a sustainable alternative carbon source, identify ways in which the fermentation process could be improved and future proofed- Spearheaded research into how DNAseq data could be utilised to improve project outcomes and inform biological understanding via Bioinformatics- Collaborate with other IPs.
