Jay Waldron has developed a diverse practice in the areas of environmental and energy law. He has tried complex cases in federal and state courts and has briefed and argued several energy and environmental cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Waldron has advised clients in the siting of numerous facilities from landfills to power plants, from pipelines to gold mines. He has written numerous articles in his specialties, including chapters in the Oregon State Bar handbooks on Environmental Law and on Damages. Mr. Waldron is named one of Oregon's top attorneys in Oregon Super Lawyers and in Best Lawyers in America.Current cases include Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act matters in federal court; siting of a coal export facility and an oil terminal, and Klamath water rights adjudication. He has obtained $100 million award in international arbitration on energy contract, $10 million award against the State of Oregon in a forest trust land dispute, $9.7 million for Coos County in a natural gas pipeline construction dispute, and a jury verdict for $1.7 million in a water pricing dispute. He also recently participated in the settlement of a $2 billion energy pricing dispute.Mr. Waldron is Chair of Oregon Health & Science University Board of Trustees and serves on the Board of Lewis & Clark College. He served six years as President of the Port of Portland Commission. He has served as Chair of the ABA TIPS environmental law committee. He clerked for Judge Otto Skopil, Jr., of the U.S. District Court of Oregon and received the Oregon State Bar Public Service Award for pro bono work.He is a director of the U.S. Rugby Foundation, a founder of the firm's East County Legal Clinic, and helped draft the Oregon State Bar standard for pro bono activities by lawyers. Mr. Waldron has played, coached and broadcast rugby on a regional, national and international level. He has also taken whitewater rafting and motorcycle adventure trips on six continents.
