The Waikato Water Treatment Plant (WTP) 50MLD (Mega Liters per Day) Upgrade is intended to take the production capability of drinking water from the Waikato river from 175 to 225. This is in response to the large increase in population living in Auckland and the ongoing drought that the Auckland area is currently experiencing.The upgrade to the WTP includes: Floating raw water pump station, raw water rising main, membrane filtration plant, carbon filtration plant, chemical addition plant and existing chemical production upgrade, chlorine contact tanks, treated water pump station, and improvement to the power supply.My Role:Working as part of the WSL Infrastructure Project delivery team to facilitate the works in an isolated and topographically confined location while maintaining operational capability.Coordinate interaction between WSL management, consultants, contractors, and operations to progress project outcomes. Monitor and report progress to WSL Project Manager and WTP operational team.Facilitate, lead, monitor, and contribute to a Safety-First culture including maintaining a secure WTP.

With the implementation of the HSW Act 2016, WSL was required to prepare a Safety Case for the Ardmore Water Treatment Plant (WTP). A Safety Case is required for Major Hazard Facilities (MHF), which Ardmore was due to the large stores of Chlorine gas for water treatment.My Role as part of the Safety Case preparation team :Develop an understanding of Process Safety through training and site visits (around NZ and Victoria, Australia).Apply process safety theories to the review of the operation of the WTP.Create or maintain risk registers for differing aspects of plant operation (E.g. chem handling, security, etc).Organise and participate in HAZOPs, CHAZOPs, SOP creation, ERP creation.Communicate progress to WSL upper management and operational staff.Utilise an Agile system for project tracking throughout the project.

In this role I was tasked with: managing consent related sampling and testing for the waste water treatment plants, which has involved onsite testing as well as arranging accredited lab testing; and maintaining the current trade waste testing program while investigating the expansion of the trade waste testing program.

To provide technical assistance and engineering expertise as part of the Utilities Project team. In this position I: performed the role of assistant to the Engineer's Representative in approximately 5 water and wastewater pipeline renewal projects; was involved in a waste water pump station performance investigation; assisted the design engineer with on site observations, designs, and calculations during a major WWTP upgrade.
