    As Director of apprenticeships my main responsibilities are for setting up, administrating and running the apprenticeships courses at the Leigh UTC. This has involved engaging with industry, giving advice and giving guidance on apprenticeships across a multi academy trust. I have successfully delivered courses up to level 4 HNC and the completion rate is above the national average. In addition, this role has involved:● Speaking at national events, making television appearances and giving talks about apprenticeships and employer engagement● Mentoring new staff, helping with their specialist training as well as their cycle of lesson observations and feedback● Recruiting new apprenticeship candidates, liaising with industrial partners and key stakeholders (employers, parents, exam boards and sponsors)● Recruiting new businesses to work with the trust on apprenticeship programmes● Working with the COO to advise on the setup of apprenticeships across the trust● Working with the Director of Engineering to help set up new engineering courses, design new projects and implement improvements● Leadership training through the London Centre for Leadership in Learning during which I continued to develop my coaching skills.

    As the head of both Engineering and Construction I responded to the demands of a technical curriculum through focus on quality of teaching and learning across KS4 and KS5 in BTEC, GCSE and A-level courses. I improved achievement through changes to training, assessment and planning, attaining well above national average on the courses I managed. This effected significant changes to teaching and learning as well as data management, tracking and performance. This was achieved through:● Restructuring the teaching and delivery of vocational courses● Implementing regular cycles of moderation, internal assessment and quality assurance● Introducing new tracking and assessment strategies which kept staff and pupils up to date with accurate progress and achievement data● Introducing extracurricular projects including starting up the Greenpower racing team● Mentoring and training new members of staff, including training my replacement● Running faculty meetings across Design and Technical subjects as well as subject specific team meetings● Line managing teaching and support staff including performance management, reviews, learning walks, lesson observation and coordination of subject reviews by external partners ● Training staff new to BTEC programs.
