I've been a freelance Artist for past 5 years now and I got started by creating Art that I loved and offering it for sale locally on Facebook, Instagram marketplace. Once people saw my work, they started asking me if I could make specific items for their needs. That got me my first customers. That started word of mouth and also helped create my portfolio by photographing and documenting the Artwork I had done for these customers. Then I created a free Facebook page and Instagram page for my freelance art and was asked often if I had a website so I was able to connect with customers through that page. I updated it every few days with new images of my art.
