I wake up and bleary-eyed check my phone for the message. My partner secretly booked me an appointment with an educational psychologist. It's in twenty minutes. They knew I was going to be too polite to skip the meeting. Damnit.A self-consciously try to smooth down my unruly mop as I sit across from a person who looks like she's never had a hair out of place in her life. I'm apologizing. She's patient. I'm excusing myself. She's listening. "Just try some things" she says. "What's the worst that can happen?"That was the moment my career was born. That moment where that lady managed to reach a kid who loved to learn, but was failing to show it in exams. From then, I dedicated myself to helping others to learn and achieve to the best of their potential, to scale provision and provide the insight that fuels innovation. To begin with I taught. Inner city and rural, adults and young people, entry level to post grad. Equality of opportunity drove me. Then, I turned my focus to the quality of provision and growing it, moving into managing post-grad teacher training.I saw the data revolution coming and decided to upskill, hence my PhD. There I taught myself to code, learned data science and developed Reciprocal Equilibria Theory that characterises adult learning in terms of a series of inter-reliant helping relationships over individual test scoring. My first big new skill test was at Improbable Worlds. Six months to scale up our onboarding and training processes. We grew four times the size in the process and I planned the defence department strategy remap following our Softbank investment that made us into a bone fide unicorn. Then I met Rob.Rob ran the Relationships Foundation and he 'got' me. He brought me on board in his organisation to bring his data science activity in-house. This I did before succeeding him as director, a position I am honoured to continue to hold today. Now I'm working with schools, government authorities and others to make informed decisions about policy and practice with a fuller view of the relational implications of those choices.Still, there are limits to the good we can do. So, I'm always keeping my ear to the ground for new opportunities to work with fascinating people, making and scaling human teams and tech products which will help people work best together and be more than the sum of their parts. If you have that sort of opportunity for me, please call. I'm on +44(7967) 794849 or you can catch me on j.ben.griffin@gmail.com
