My favorite thing about working for a small company is being able to be involved in such a wide array of areas and solving cross-disciplinary problems. I also enjoy mentoring other engineers on a wide variety of topics. I love having the chance to go deep both in both software and infrastructure and solving problems with code. I like to be hands-on. I can manage a team but prefer other ways of being a force multiplier.While I have worked for Advent Health Partners since March 2020, my relationship with the company started years earlier the company's use of my open source PDF software, qpdf (https://qpdf.sourceforge.io). I'm grateful that the company continues to support my work on qpdf.Over most of my career, my niche has been software tools, development frameworks, and system administration utilities, particularly those that require in-depth knowledge of multiple areas. This suits me well since I have strong backgrounds in both software and IT. I have developed a wide range of products from numerous quick scripts to full-fledged applications including qpdf, a popular and mature open source PDF manipulation/inspection system (https://qpdf.sourceforge.io). These days, I do most of my coding in Go, Python, and C++. I also dabble in rust and can be productive in a few other languages as well. I also have expertise in ansible, terraform, and modern CI/CD platforms like GitHub actions.Specialties: infrastructure, testability and observability by design, tool development, security, low-level development, networking, programming in a variety of mainstream and obscure languages including scripting languages. Strong experience with AWS and other public clouds. Strong infrastructure security background. I'm also a PDF whisperer.
