About Jay Hancock (He/Him/His)

I started coding when I was 7. I’ve been trained in electrical engineering and computer science attending Boston University and MIT. My masters theses focused on neural networks for water vapor prediction in the atmosphere using microwave sounding data. I ventured into web development in 2005 and began working fully remotely with Ruby on Rails. After consulting, and then being hired by a startup in San Francisco, I joined Naked Apartments in NYC. We were acquired by Zillow in 2016, and I’ve moved into Senior Engineering Management at StreetEasy. My focus is on the career growth of developers in my organization, delivering technical projects that help StreetEasy meet our KPIs, designing and executing initiatives that impact the engineering organization, and ensuring a high standard of individual approach to engineering. Recently I’ve been integrating ChatGPT with various processes and systems, and educating friends and colleagues how to incorporate this new technology into their tech and workflows. Prompt Engineering is like learning how to “google” all over again. I enjoy flying airplanes and paramotors, producing electronic music, and photography for wildlife, landscape, and astrophotography.
