I received my bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Sciences with a minor in Community Health Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). I completed an internship for the Davidson Institute as a university student and then went on to pursue my career as a Family Consultant for profoundly gifted students and their families. I've completed Motivational Interviewing Training and a variety of professional development courses through my time at the Davidson Institute.After focusing on academic advising for the profoundly gifted for five years, I decided it was time for a professional change. This is where I found Path to Independence (P2I). P2I is a two year, non-degree seeking, college program for students with intellectual disabilities at UNR. I’ve been with with P2I since July 1, 2022. Here, I’m applying what I know about academic advising and inclusivity in post-secondary education for this vulnerable and deserving population. It’s my job to support students with choosing academic classes through UNR, pair these students with Ed Coaches who attend class with them, and ensure they are having a meaningful, accessible, and equitable college experience.
