With the merger of Fiserv and First Data in July of 2019, I was selected to lead the Platform Engineering organization in the combined firm. Responsibilities include the global architecture and engineering of our underlying platform & infrastructure for all revenue producing activities. This includes: network, distributed storage (non-mainframe), distributed compute & virtualization (x86 and Power), infrastructure security (FWs, HSMs, etc), application networking (ADCs, GSLB, DNS, etc), operating systems, common platforms/frameworks, gateways, messaging/streams/buses, caching, databases and data stores, containers, and public cloud usage. We work on transforming our platform infrastructure through automation and self-service for our internal and external clients & partners. In addition to the 625 direct team members, we also have around 200 additional members from our India in sourced Global Services org and contractors.

First Data's Global Foundational Infrastructure Technology (GFIT) was comprised of externally and internally facing technology teams. Externally the org is responsible for the architecture and engineering of our owned & operated data centers, colocated data centers, networks, storage, compute, security & application services, and DataWire DevOps team (provides secure transport), all supporting the more than 6M+ retail locations, 4000+ financial institutions, and 93 billion global payment transactions and processing 10% of the US GDP annually. Internally all aspects of end user services from the desktop, support, directory, network, server, collaboration, and office applications whether on-prem or in the cloud for First Data's 24,000 strong workforce. As part of that workforce the contact centers and external clients rely on the omnichannel voice-chat-messaging-video contact center technology development, engineering, and operations provided from GFIT as well.

I ran the global telecommunication networks for First Data Corporation, reporting to the CTO. These networks support the high transaction per second count and always available commerce enabling payment processing and services that FDC brings to market across the globe. My responsibility is the global organization that provides the underlying voice, video, & data network infrastructure, application delivery services, and network security infrastructure for all of FDC, and many of it's clients. Without publicly stating the scale of the organization, it is larger than any prior role in terms of headcount, OpEx, and CapEx.

With tp.org (affectionately called Turning Point Studios) I make available Internet services to "high speed, low drag" individuals for their Internet ventures. While tp.org started out as the server for an Internet game that I was one of the admins for, I have since moved it to providing email and website hosting, blog hosting, podcast hosting, multiple VoIP servers, various game servers, and other activities through my co-located servers at the Ashburn Equinix facility. Through tp.org, I also DONATE my technical skills, time, and hosting capabilities to NON-PROFITS as needed. On the extremely rare occasion (every other decade or so when I have time), use tp.org as a vehicle for technology consulting work.

Cimpress is a global leader in mass customization and the parent company of Vistaprint, Pixart, Printdeal, Albumprinter, Exagroup, Druck.at, webs.com, and many other business units. Reporting to the COO of Cimpress, I led Tech Ops, a global 200+ employee organization responsible for centralized information technology. Supported ~7000 employees and $2B+ of FY16 revenue with an organization spanning North America, Europe, Australia, Tunisia, India, Japan, Brazil, and China. I was brought in to create and execute a modern vision to support a rapidly changing business model, from the former single $1.2B Vistaprint business unit to multi-business units leveraging a central fulfillment network. While corporate structure rapidly changed, the software engineering model moved from a centrally developed monolithic application to small line-of-business aligned DevOps squads focusing on microservices leveraging AWS. Cost center responsibility at the start of FY17 was ~$75M OpEx and ~$25M CapEx.

In January 2012 I was promoted to the vice president level role of Distinguished Engineer for the Technology Operations* and the AOL Brands Technologies* organizations. I worked with the many architects, engineers, and operators throughout the Development and Tech Ops organizations assuring designs were innovative, highly available, scaled with ease, and were extremely cost effective.From the overall AOL Technologies perspective I led all mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures starting with pre-LOI technology due diligence all the way through to post-close integration planning and coordination across the Production and Enterprise technology organizations.Starting in 2010 I served as one of the longest tenured AOL Cultural Ambassadors, interviewing diverse candidates beyond Technologies and throughout AOL for cultural fit. I strove to uphold the AOL culture while expanding it in the directions we sought through events, recruiting, and general influence throughout the organization.Selected for the CEO Leadership Program in 2012-2013. As the Sr. Technical Director of Network Engineering & Operations (NEO) -- I had responsibility for all of AOL's external production networks including our Tier 1 ISP, the AOL Transit Data Network - AS1668, and our internal employee networks. This included all routers, switches, ADC, SLB, GSLB, DNS, CDNs, DWDM transport systems, circuits, and worldwide co-location sites. 6 managers and a total organization peak of 59 employees. Yearly P&L responsibility $34M OIBDA and $21M CapEx, $15M depreciation on $60M of installed capital base.

I moved from the enterprise/employee side of the house to the production/customer facing side of the house in 2006 when I took the role of Chief Architect of the Network Engineering & Operations organization as well as taking over the Network Architecture teams and the DNS/GSLB Engineering teams. The Network Architecture team and I completely redesigned the Data Center Network infrastructure, transforming a decade old design which was limited by product specific builds to a more generic infrastructure allowing greater flexibility and a great reduction in costs. The DNS/GSLB team and I completely redesigned the DNS infrastructure for AOL bring faster update times and greater resilience while again, greatly reducing the cost.
