Engineering Group Manager(Magna) Cartopsystems, N.A., Inc. May 2000 - Sep 2006Leader of the Group of Engineers, Designers, Spec Analysts, Analysis, Validation, and Test technicians who developed the Cadillac XLR retractable hardtop roof system. When I arrived the roof system that had been developed for the Alpha/Mule phase was experiencing functional and durability issues in 4 out of the 5 major kinematic assemblies which allowed it to operate. The first order of business was to make sure these were fixed. This took an effort of engineers in Michigan and Germany. My role was "traveling integration lead", making sure that the data was shared daily, joint design reviews were held, and that all systems integrated properly. Additionally I was tasked t document design lessons learned and best practices to be shared between the German and US offices. This activity was a total success as we were able to arrive at designs that met all durability requirements, gaining back the approximately 4 months that we were behind schedule, and launch the vehicle on schedule.A remaining task at the other end of the development path, was the fact that the plant quality team was struggling with the daunting task of performing capability studies on 73 dimensional KPCs on an extremely complex system to build and align; which was preventing payment of the rather significant final ED&D/Tooling invoice. I personally stayed at the plant and led/performed all 73 gage R&R studies, and all 73 capability studies, created and implemented all improvement plans where needed; then led the negotiation with the customer to arrive at customer PPAP approval resulting in that payment. Finally, I assured documentation of all assembly procedures; gage and fixture maintenance, and training in maintenance of statistical analyses to assure ongoing compliance. -
