As an ex-academic, I've juggled many roles ranging from a working at the lab bench, lecturing students in the (virtual) classroom, writing grants and academic papers, and mentoring scientists. I'm passionate about developing technologies for improving human health and educating all audiences about breakthroughs in medical science. As a Principal Investigator, I ran a multidisciplinary laboratory focused on drug delivery. My research group combined expertise in biomaterials development with advanced fabrication to explore drug delivery to the central nervous system. My Ph.D. training focused on synthesizing new polymers and bioconjugates for treating cardiovascular disease. My broad scientific background allows me to interact with clinicians, basic scientists, and engineers. As an educator, I taught the Senior Design Capstone course for six years. I based the course on the Biodesign Curriculum, which takes an entrepreneurial, human-centered approach to engineering design. I also developed a course in advanced manufacturing of medical devices, started a revamping of the introduction to biomedical engineering class, and taught graduate-level scientific communication.One of the silver linings of the pandemic was that I was afforded the space and time to realize that I wanted to find a different way to impact the world outside of academia. I'm currently looking for positions that will allow me to bring my multidisciplinary background to drive advances in educations and biomedical technology.
