I have a broad-ranging journalism career that has spanned nearly 20 years and have won multiple awards for my work. I am currently the Managing Editor of News Sense, a digital-first initiative focused on Solutions Journalism. I am a Trainer with Google News Initiative India Training Network, have training specialism in identifying and responding to misinformation and disinformation. I am also a trainer with BBC Young Reporter India Program, which aims to help school students build media literacy skills. Starting in 2003 with Sahara Samay in New Delhi and Kolkata, where I began as a Producer and was later made Correspondent. I then took on the role of Station Head at Zee News in Kolkata, and then Bureau Chief at Green TV in eastern India. Awards I have won include • KKN Journalism Award for "Best TV Journalist" (2009) • Candid Communication Award for “News Print Journalist” (2012).• 'Best Social Film', in the National competition with the Yes Foundation for my animation "Tree, My Friend" (2015)• In recognition for my work highlighting gender issues through Web Journalism, I was awarded with the prestigious United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) supported 'National Laadli Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity' (2016)• Winner of the prestigious 'Sishushree Award' in the Best Reporting on Child Rights, awarded by the West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights and UNICEF (2020).• ‘Changemaker of the Year 2021’ by Thomson Reuters Foundation in recognition to my work on Development Journalism. Also participated in the TRF flagship annual event ‘Trust Conference’ as a Speaker.A trained Defence Journalist with the Ministry of Defence in India, I am also an alumnus of Thomson Reuters Foundation's training in covering Human Trafficking and Slavery | Reporting on ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) and Reporting on LGBTIQ+ and Gender Rights. I hold a first class Post Graduate in Mass Communication and Journalism from Jadavpur University in Kolkata and a Special Course on Journalism for Social Change from UC Berkeley.I also spend time with my creative engagements by making Documentary Films, Ad Films, Corporate Films and Animation Films. Associated with various Educational Institutes as visiting faculty teaching New Media, Television Journalism and Documentary Film.
