During this work term, I spent two months with the Water and Sewer Division and two months with the Survey Division.With the Water and Sewer Division I supervised the installation of sanitary, storm and water installations to ensure engineering designs were followed and OH&S measures were followed. I also provided as-built drawings and reports in order to track the progress of installations.With the Survey Division, I assisted in calculating elevations, distances, alignments, and quantities of earthen material. I also staked locations for sanitary, storm and water services. In both of these roles, I learned how to troubleshoot in the field and resolve problems on-the-fly to ensure timely project completion.

In this field-based position I conducted quality assurance sampling and analysis of aggregate, monitored the placement of aggregate in the field, and provided survey and density testing assistance. I also proofread tender documents in preparation for project bids.
