I was contracted by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) to help administer one of their websites -- the Volunteer Hub. The Hub is an online tool that Western Australia's 32,000 volunteer emergency services personnel use to access resources, information, training, news and much more. I was chiefly responsible for planning, moderating, coordinating and publishing web content, moderating and publishing documents, training coworkers to use our systems, and monitoring the performance and quality of the Hub.- Writing, editing, planning, publishing and auditing web content, including news, events, banners, landing pages, etc.- Moderating and publishing documents, ensuring that they comply with statutory and organisational requirements around branding, accessibility and accountability.- Training DFES staff to use the Volunteer Hub front end, its CMS (Sitefinity) and its document management system (Sharepoint).- Monitoring the performance of the website, ensuring it is fully functional, reporting any errors.

I volunteered to research four extremely rare species of tree frogs in the Northern Tablelands in rural New South Wales.In the last five decades, the populations of these four species have been in steep decline, with one even suspected to be extinct. The reason for the decline is unconfirmed, but it is believed that chytrid fungus might be to blame.The purpose of this research project was to investigate if chytrid is indeed the culprit. To that end, we travelled into rural NSW and scoured pre-identified sites for the elusive amphibians.Tiny, nocturnal and shy, they are exceedingly difficult to find. They are always found near fresh water and, as the name suggests, you must look high and low to find them.My role was to help weigh, measure and swab frogs for chytrid fungus. As other species of frogs can be carriers of the fungus, we swabbed any we came across.Sadly, we found very few of the tree frogs we were looking for.

Other primary roles included the utilisation of landing pages and meta keywords to ensure our SEO was where it needed to be to produce the required results. My favourite part of this role was the website management as I got to put a bit of personality into newly launched products and watch them exponentially increase in sales on our ecommerce platforms.

My favourite responsibility concerned the social media element of this role, as I was able to go in-depth into what engaged our consumers. Long and short term social media strategies were exciting to be a part of, and using analytical tools to record our success rates/ levels of engagement was fascinating to be a part of.
